What are the different methods?
Extraction of follicles from the donor site is known as hair ‘harvesting’. This can be carried out in two ways:
- FUT (also known as Strip) in which a strip of skin is removed from the back and sides of the head under local anaesthetic. Then the grafts are individually extracted from the strip and transplanted onto the affected areas of thinning hair.
- FUE (follicular unit extraction) uses a small round punch to extract the hair follicles one by one from an area of dense hair growth to apply to an area of baldness.
