What is Acne?

Acne is one of the most common skin condition problems for teenagers and young adults, but it can also develop as late as your twenties or thirties. Acne skin condition makes it difficult for all affected patients to feel confident, as it has far reaching social and psychological effects.

What are Acne symptoms?

Acne skin disease is characterized by blackheads and whiteheads mostly developed on the face, but it can also affect the back and chest area. Other lesions can be papules, or pustules characterized by small red and raised bumps. Painful lumps formed as nodules and cysts located beneath the skin surface are also considered acne symptoms.

What causes acne?

Acne results from plugged hair follicles due to excess sebum production and accumulation of dead cells. These plugged follicles become infected by skin bacteria and are unable to escape, leading to the formation of papules, pustules, nodules or cysts. Acne often appears with hormonal changes, or specific medications as birth control pills.

Because acne could leave permanent scarring, it has to be treated seriously. In our Epilium London Clinic, this embarrassing condition can be greatly reduced or even eliminated completely with deep cleansing facials, face peels or treatment with our N-lite laser.

How is Acne treated in our London clinic?

Deep cleansing Facial
Your skin will be first clean with antibacterial specific skin wash. Our nurse will usually start with a mild glycolic peel to exfoliate the skin to get it rid of dead cells and open the pores. She will follow with extraction of whiteheads and blackheads to clear the skin of all impurities trapped in congested pores. In large cysts dirt and fluids will be drained manually to reduce infection and pain. Non-comedogenic creams and serums will be applied. A thermal heating mask will end the treatment to ensure deeper penetration of active ingredients and calm the skin and prevent excess redness.

Skin care regime
Using the correct acne daily skin care regime together with these treatments is the secret to reach your goal of a clear complexion.
