Anti wrinkle injections
Anti wrinkle injections are a non surgical solution which help to smooth out expressions line such as forehead lines, fine lines and crow’s feet for a more youthful look.
What is Anti wrinkle treatment?
Originally, Anti wrinkle treatment was a drug used in the 1980s. The Doctors used this to treat various conditions such as strabismus, blepharospasm, equine foot and excessive sweating.
Doctors noticed during treating these conditions, the Anti wrinkle injection treatment relaxed the muscles. This furthermore assisted in smoothing wrinkles on the skin surface.
Since then, a number of laboratories have carried out extensive studies into it’s use. Finally, in 2003, the FDA authorised the use of it in the aesthetic treatment of wrinkles.
What are the indications for Anti wrinkle treatment?
Unfortunately, expression lines come with age. The contraction of facial muscles can also be a result of these wrinkles, often caused by fatigue or anxiety – sometimes these can be quite severe.
The areas anti wrinkles injections help to smooth are; horizontal forehead wrinkles, frown lines and wrinkles around the eyes (commonly known as crow’s feet).
In conclusion, the need for surgery is no longer as these injections help to relax and rejuvenate the upper third of the face.
How does the Anti wrinkles treatment work?
Anti wrinkle injections work by blocking signals from the nerves to the muscles. Muscle Contraction is no longer able to happen, causing wrinkles in the area to relax and soften.
What happens during the treatment?
After disinfecting the area to be treated, the doctor will inject a measured dose to alleviate the wrinkles while retaining a natural look. Our physicians adapt the procedure to suit the physiology of each patient’s face. There is no such thing as a standard treatment as each person has differing facial composition and requirements.
Results appear within 3 to 7 days of the treatment (in some patients it may take up to 15 days). The benefit will last for 4 to 6 months and this period can be extended with further treatment.
If a patient is not happy with the results, we will offer a retouch after 15 days have elapsed.
Redness where the product has been injected is normal and will disappear in less than an hour. After the treatment you can apply make-up and go back to work immediately with no worries or concerns.
What are the contra-indications?
Understandably, before proceeding with a Anti wrinkles treatment, the doctor will do a full consultation to identify any medical conditions that might cause an adverse reaction. These include:
- Pregnancy and breast feeding
- Antibiotic treatment
- Recent blood thinning medication
- Myasthenia gravis (a neuromuscular disease)
- Recent anti-inflammatory treatment

We ask patients taking medication to advise the physician before treatment. Don’t take aspirin nor anti-inflammatory drugs 8 days prior to treatment to avoid the occurrence of bruising.
