Varicose / Spider veins
Foam Sclerotherapy (£700 per session)
One of the most effective ways to treat varicose veins, a solution is mixed with air creating a foam which is injected into the affected vein. It then causes inflammation, pushing out any blood in the area. The vein is eventually closed off, causing it to shrink and disappear.
If the vein is very deep, the doctor will employ ultrasound to guide the injection into the correct area.
Foam sclerotherapy is usually carried out under local anesthetic and takes 20 minutes. Patients can go home immediately afterwards but will need to wear compression stockings for about a week.
Phlebotherapy (£450 a session)
A brand new treatment developed by Dr. Chardonneau, using a special solution of sodium salicylate that is used to actually regenerate the veins, rather than cutting them off (a typical strategy in the UK). This procedure is better for the circulation, and the skin.
Veinwave (£350 a session)
To eradicated spider veins anywhere on the body, Epilium & Skin uses a treatment which was actually developed by Dr Chardonneau himself in France in 1999. This uses a process called thermocoagulation to heat and close vessels instantly, in a procedure that takes less than 15 minutes to perform. Safe, effective and virtually painless, Veinwave works on very tiny veins that cannot be treated with conventional laser methods that have the additional risks of burning and scarring.
Veinwave causes little more than a slight redness which fades after a few hours, unlike other treatments that are not only painful but result in weeks of bruising. No bandages are required and patients can resume their normal activities immediately afterwards.
Results can be seen quickly after the procedure and will continue to improve over the next few days. The treatment of spider veins with the Veinwave system is permanent.
Microsclerotherapy (£220 a session)
Using a very fine needle, this involves injections of a sclerosing drug which cause both surface and spider veins to shrivel and disappear.
The procedure takes just 20 minutes and patients will see a marked improvement after the first treatment. However, for optimal results patients will usually require an average of three sessions.
Chemical Peels (from £80 a session)
The chemical solution applied causes the outer layers of the epidermis to peel away. When the skin begins to heal, increased cell growth produces new, healthier skin layers. Two to three sessions are usually required.
Laser (£200 a session, or £450 for a course of three)
The laser light is absorbed by the brown/dark spots and converted into heat causing it to break down any areas of pigmentation. Post treatment, the area will appear darker and may form a thin crust which peels off within a week. The result is diminished areas of pigmentation and in some cases, discoloration is removed altogether.
Leg reshaping / Cellulite
Mesotherapy (from £185 a session)
Devised to eliminate saggy knees, this involves injecting a combination of vitamins, minerals and amino acids with a fine needle deep into the tissue to break down the fat and tighten the skin. Suitable for all skin types, this is one of the most effective methods to help contour the body. It can also be used for cellulite, stretch marks, spider veins and scars caused by conditions such as acne.
Liposculpture (between £1,000 and £3,000 a session)
Liposculpture takes the established technique of liposuction to a whole new level. Used to slim down ankles, and thighs, and to treat cellulite, this process sucks out the fat via a tiny cannula.
Cryolipolysis (from £800 a session)
Saggy knees, ankles, thighs, and cellulite, can all be tackled via this new process which involves controlled freezing of fat cells that the body naturally disposes of over the following weeks and months.
Radio Frequency (£450 for a course of three)
For a tighter and firmer appearance for the whole leg, this treatment generates energy that causes the collagen fibres to contract, encouraging new collagen to be produced.
