Electrolysis Hair Removal

Electrolysis is one of the top FDA approved permanent hair removal solutions for facial and body hair. Electrolysis hair removal is performed by an extremely fine probe being inserted directly in the hair follicle on the skin surface. The probe then administers a small electrical current which kills the hair at the root. The hair will then detach itself from the bulb and allow the practitioner to slide it out with tweezers. The procedure is just like a stinging/pricking sensation. Electrolysis hair removal treatment holds a successful track record in removing hair permanently and has been around since the early 1900’s.

Laser requires further treatment when the hair grows back, whereas electrolysis will destroy the hairs indefinitely.
Electrolysis can be performed on ALL hair types and colours including white, grey and blonde. Laser can only treat dark hairs.
With laser, it is easier & quicker to treat large areas of skin which can reduce hair growth, but does not remove all of the hair permanently. It is termed hair reduction rather than hair removal.

It is possible to perform both electrolysis and laser together, as the two treatments can work well in conjunction with each other in some circumstances, to avoid paradoxical hair stimulation.

Permanent hair removal with electrolysis requires a longer course of treatment but results in complete, permanent removal of all hair treated.

Unlike laser, electrolysis can virtually treat any area, apart from the inside of the nose and inner ear (the rim of the ear can be safely treated).

Common areas for woman are facial areas, (top lip, chin, neck, cheeks, eyebrows) breasts, abdomen, underarms, bikini line, legs, fingers and toes.

Common areas for men are the upper arms, around the ears, top of the nose, eyebrows, top of the back, cheeks above the line of the beard, around the edges of the beard and any areas where ingrown hairs are causing problems.

The number of treatments required will vary from person to person as each client will have a different density of hair growth (e.g. there may be between 50 hairs and 500 hairs packed into a small area of skin tissue, whilst some clients will have less hair which is spaced out). This means that each treatment course will vary, and therefore no actual figure can be put on the number of treatments required, but you will quickly feel and see a difference giving you the confidence to continue with your treatment course. You will need to have regular appointments over a period of time (at least a year if not more) for most areas. Not all our hair is growing at the same time, and it can be quite a shock to find that those 3 or 4 hairs on your chin could actually be 30 or more hairs alternatively growing. On top of this hair thickness, skin sensitivity, dryness and other factors affect how quickly each hair can be eliminated.

In electrolysis, there is really no ‘typical’ treatment as all clients are individuals and a treatment plan is created to suit the individual’s needs and requirements. Treatments can take anything from 10 minutes once a month to up to 2 hours once a week. Electrolysis treatment will initially take longer and be frequent eventually tailing off to shorter less frequent treatments as the hair becomes less dense, finer, lighter and less noticeable. Treatment can be performed in one area or in many different areas in any given treatment session.
